And so, I might as well throw one more at ya! Enter Sentient Parenting. I just made it up! Or so I thought.

Drat… sentientparenting.com already exists.. and here I was sure I had stumbled upon something truly my own. Something truly from the depths of me. Something that encompasses and explains all the theories! The Theory of Everything (on child raising that is).

~~~~~~~~
SENTIENT: Conscious
able to recognize, alert, perceptive, attentive, awake, aware, cognizant, feeling, in on, in the right mind, informed, knowing, noticing, observing, perceiving, receptive, recognizing,responsive, seeing, sensitive to, understanding,watchful
AUTHENTIC: Genuine
Genuine, real, true, reliable, dependable, trustworthy, honest, faithful
~ Antonyms: fake, unreliable
(In existentialist philosophy) relating to or denoting an emotionally appropriate, significant, purposive, and responsible mode of human life.
~~~~~~~~

This concept comes from my depths, it’s also one that until recently I didn’t realize had taken real form in my head. I hadn’t composed an inclusive understanding of the entire concept I seem to house in my mind concerning children, childhood, and parenting them as a whole before. I haven’t been able to wholly align myself with any of the aforementioned “styles”. So, maybe this angle will suit me better.

The entire point of me creating this blog is to learn, to expand, to share, and to reach out to those needing encouragement along the way. However, the content found at sentientparenting.com isn’t exactly what I had in mind… I guess maybe my take on this is mine after all.

That said, Sentient & Authentic Parenting is, to me, sharing my life as an equal partner with my child, while she shares her childhood with me. Choosing awareness and observation over control, manipulation, and coercion. Intentionally respecting her just as she is, equally to any adult of whom I respect and admire deeply. And making sure she sees me, raw and genuine, real and vulnerable, learning and growing in wisdom through imperfection and resilience. I’m here for her now, until she takes flight, as a guide, a comfort, a mama. One day, not so very far off, I hope she will choose me as her friend.

And, just in case you need a few other words/concepts to choose from:

Main Entry: cognizant
Definition: aware
Synonyms:
acquainted, alive, awake, conscious, informed, judicious, knowing, knowledgeable, observant, perceptive
Antonyms: ignorant, unaware, unfamiliar, uninformed, unknowledgeable, unwitting

Main Entry: conscious
Definition: alert, awake
Synonyms: able to recognize, acquainted, assured, attentive, aware, certain, cognizant, discerning, informed, keen, knowing, known, mindful, noticing, noting, observing, perceiving, percipient, recognizing, remarking, responsive, seeing, sensible, sensitive to, sentient , supraliminal, sure, understanding, vigilant, watchful,
Antonyms: ignorant, impassive, indifferent, senseless, unaware, unconscious, unmindful, unresponsive

Main Entry: responsive
Definition: quick to react
Synonyms: acknowledging, active, answering, awake, aware, compassionate, conscious, forthcoming, impressionable, influenceable, kindhearted, open, passionate, perceptive, persuadable, reactive, receptive, replying, respondent, sensible, sensile, sensitive, sentient , sharp, softhearted, susceptible, susceptive, sympathetic, tender, warm, warmhearted
Antonyms: insensitive, unresponsive, unsusceptible

Roget’s 21st Century Thesaurus, Third Edition

Ok then…

Authentic Parenting Aware Parenting Attachment Parenting Love & Logic Child Training Helicopter, Gender Neutral, Unparenting, Tough Love, Teacup, Baby-wise, Conditional, Unconditional, and even, Hypnosis Parenting (yep, it exists).
